A Method for Measuring Similarity of Movement during Archery Shooting

초록

Abstract: In this paper, we provide a method for measuring similarity of movement during archery shooting. The similarity, a Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) distance, was calculated by using a DTW algorithm between two time-sequences, even if the lengths of the time-sequences do not match. The time?sequence data generated by an accelerometer that mounted on left (bow arm) forearm was used to measure movement during archery shooting at a sampling frequency of 100 Hz. The time-sequences of four elementary-level participant (middle school students) were recorded during archery shooting. For each recording round, an archer shoots 6 shots at 30 m distance and take a short rest. Each participant shoots totally 36 arrows in a successive round. The relationship between the similarity of movement and scores were evaluated. The results showed that the higher score for an archer achieved, the lower DTW distance they showed. Smaller value means higher level similarity. We inferred that the proposed method might be important means for assessing shooting skills, evaluation of archer’s progress, and finding talented archers in advance.
