A Theoretical Study on the Submicron Particle Collection in Electret Filters

A theoretical study was carried out on the collection of the particles of submicron size in the electret filters. The simulation model describing the particle deposition in the fibrous media was developed to take into account the various particle collection mechanisms such as inertial impaction, interception, Brownian diffusion, and electrostatic attraction or repulsion. The simulation results were compared with the experimental data of other investigators. It was shown that our simulation method could predict the experimentally determined single fiber efficiency with reasonable accuracy. The change in particle deposition morphology was also investigated.
