Peritoneal Dialysis Catheter Insertion Using a Double-lumen Hemodialysis Catheter: An Simple Alternative to the Peel-Away Sheath Method

To perform CAPD catheter insertion more easily, quickly and safely at bedside, we developed a new method using double lumen hemodialysis (HD) catheter instead of trocar. We investigated the clinical utility of this approach in establishing access for peritoneal dialysis.This novel catheter insertion technique appears to have a high success rate, to reduce serious complications re¬quiring surgery, and to offer considerable savings in terms of operating time. Thus, it seems to be a good alternative to the peel-away sheath method.
