초록

A manufacturing process of an axle housing is investigated. The current process consists of five-stage cold extrusion operations. The current process sequence is simulated by the rigid-plastic FEM, and design criteria are examined. Considerations are placed in terms of reduced operational process, overloading of the tools, and the possibility of buckling. Based on the results of simulation of the current five-stage process, design strategy for improving the process sequence is developed. The new process sequence consists of only two operations, which are mainly combinations of the conventional process. The deformation patterns and the strain distributions in the new process are found to be very similar to those in the conventional one. However, the maximum punch load is greatly reduced in the new process.
