The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of parent-child relationship and the role of self-regulated learning efficacy on academic achievement. A total of 830 Grade 9 students (male= 411, female= 419) completed a questionnaire developed by Bandura and second and third authors. These students have previously completed a similar questionnaire three years earlier when they were in Grade 6. Results from the path analysis indicate that previous academic achievement had a greatest effect on present academic achievement. Second, adolescents’ achievement motivation was directly influenced by a sense of indebtedness, thankfulness, and achievement pressure that they felt for their parents. Third, adolescents’ respect for their parents and parental social support increased self-regulated learning efficacy, which in turn influenced their academic achievement. These results point to the importance of parent-child relationship, parental social and self-efficacy for academic achievement of Korean adolescents. Implications of these findings will be discussed
