Analysis of the Local Ventilation Effects in a University Classroom Equipped with Ductless Energy Recovery Ventilators

As an increasing global concern about air pollution, the demand for adequate ventilation is also increasing. In particular, the demand for ductless ERVs equipped with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters is increasing especially for buildings that were not targets of the mandatory ERV installation when being constructed. There are insufficient research data for the ventilation effects of ductless ERVs that supply the fresh air from single diffusers. The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the local ventilation effects by measuring indoor CO2 and PM2.5 levels when operating ductless ERVs equipped with HEPA filters in a university classroom. The results show that the local ventilation efficiency according to measuring points can be deviated by 0.26 for CO2 and 0.35 for PM2.5, respectively. Thus, proper locations when installing the ductless ERVs must be carefully selected for ensuring an even distribution of the local ventilation efficiency.
