A Study on the Implementation of the Zigbee Network System on Shipboard for real time monitoring System

Marine vessels are getting increasingly technological, unmanned, and large. Because the follow-up service after delivery of the vessels is very important, parts or components of the vessel have to be periodically managed during their lifecycle. If the vessels are managed using wired sensor network, the cost will increase geometrically. Therefore, we use the wireless sensor network. However, this results in some communication problems because these vessels are made of steel. To resolve this, mesh networking of ZigBee and PLC (Power Line Communication) are used to monitor the engine room, which is the main observation area. We have tested this prototype in a very similar environment. We expect this study to help in reducing the cost of maintenance besides supporting its application in many different fields.
