Results of the Test of Understanding College Economics for Korean College Students

This study reports the findings from a recent sample of university students in Korea who were given the 30-item microeconomics TUCE-4 and the 30-item macroeconomics TUCE-4, and compares university students’ knowledge of economics among the United States, Japan and Korea. We devise a method of comparing international differences given different levels of knowledge. Even with this method, Korea shows significantly higher overall scores on microeconomics and macroeconomics tests than the U.S. and Japan, and also presents the similarities and differences of scores of content categories, and scores of cognitive categories in TUCE-4 among the U.S., Japan and Korea.
