High Performance Biodegradable Film of Thermoplastic Starch and Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) blend film Using Epoxied Soybean Oil (ESO) as Compatibilizer

초록

Biodegradable films with high performance are crucial for applying in wildly application. Thermoplastic starch (TPS) and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) are immiscible. To overcome this issue epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) was used as a compatibilizer to enable interface adhesion and compatibility. As results at 3% of ESO in TPS/PBAT blend the elongation behavior of the binary blend of TPS and PBAT dramatically increased as compared to that of blends without ESO. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to investigate the intramolecular hydrogen bonding and chemical bonding of ESO between TPS and PBAT blend. The intramolecular hydrogen bonding between TPS and PBAT was significantly involved in biodegradability of blends film, which evaluated from extent of disintegration according to ISO 20200. Therefore, the environmental sustainability of TPS/PBAT films with ESO their potential to enhance the value of TPS-based materials, expanding their suitability for diverse applications.
