Burkitt’s lymphoma presenting as ileocolic intussusception in adolescent
초록
Intussusception is common in infants. Prevalence declines after 1 year of age and the condition is uncommon in children 5 years and older. Although most cases are idiopathic, approximately 10% of cases have a pathologic lead point. Particularly in intussusception in children older than 5 years, pathologic lead points such as adhesions, polyps, lymphomas, or Meckel’s diverticulum should be suspected. Burkitt’s lymphoma may present primarily as intussusception, but is not a common etiology. We report a case of a 14-year-old boy who initially presented with chronic abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea due to ileocolic intussusception with Burkitt’s lymphoma. Burkitt’s lymphoma involving such atypical conditions can pose a diagnostic challenge to clinicians. It is a diagnostic entity that the surgeon should consider when faced with a child with an unspecific clinical presentation, who complains of diffuse abdominal pain, weight loss, and bloody stool. Burkitt's lymphoma is very sensible to chemotherapy. However, the suspicion of intestinal intussusception with a pathological lesion at the lead point of the intussusceptum necessitates surgery and a multidisciplinary team with an oncologist assures efficient therapeutic management.
