Convective heat transfer by large impingement of flame jet on steel structure

The Nusselt number and the convective heat transfer is simulated to access the thermal loading on the deck plate on which the exhausting gas of the jet system of VTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing) vehicle is acting. Impinging jets generating the thermal flow is numerically studied to assess the convective heat transfer on the target surface by computational fluid dynamic (CFD) method. Computations were performed based on the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) model and the SST (Shear stress transport) model. Convective heat transfer coefficient numerically estimated are compared to the available experimental data. Thereafter, the Nusselt number associated with the convective heat energy is discussed.
