Design of Polarization Splitter using Birefringence of Polymer

초록

제8회 광전자 및 광통신 학술회의 (COOC 2001) 논문집, pp. 321-322 (2001. 5. 16~18). *** 무주 리조트 A polarization splitter based on the birefringence of polymer is designed. The component contains a polarization splitting section consisting of a MMI(multi-mode interference) coupler. The widths of the access waveguide and MMI coupler are 3㎛ and 16.7㎛, respectively. By using the MPA(mode propagation Analysis), the characteristics of the polarization splitter were analyzed. Results of numerical calculation predicted that excess losses are 1.59 dB for both polarizations with a device length of 10.6㎜. Extinction ratios are 20.5 dB and 15.9 dB for TE and TM modes, respectively. Extinction ratios can be improved by reducing the access waveguide width, but excess losses are increased.
