We introduce our recent work on the slim Maxwellian and super-multi-view (SMV) virtual reality (VR) displays. We use a combination of the point light source array and the micro lens array to reduce the thickness of the overall system and enable virtual image presentation with large depth of field. By dynamically control the point light source array along with the display contents, the SMV three-dimensional image presentation is also realized. The system thickness can be further reduced by implementing the point light source array using a holographic optical element. The system configuration, implementation detail and the experimental results will be discussed in the presentation.
