This thesis develops a design experiment through a hypothesis which a is to be verified. The area of Tong-Eui-Dong is selected as a site, which has kept the archetype of pre-modern city in Korea though it also has been fossilized by political formalin. Focusing on the hypothesis that human notion converts the given environment to a place, the study decodes Lee Sang's poem to reflect the sense of place insinuated in Tong-Eui-Dong. The thesis, therefore, attempts to read the fragmented structure of the city of Seoul not through physical circumstances but through an individual's narrative structure, to provide Seoul, a space of discontinuance, with a communicative passage, and to develop a possible design method that connect the past with the present, by means of allegory.
