초록

Seventeenth Century was a critical epoch of intellectual resistance. It was before all the thinking principles were subverted by Descartes' Reductionism and mathematical theory when the struggle with preserving philosophy of natural science was so strong. Today's circumstance can be also depicted as an epoch of subversion and paradigm shift in the intellectual speculation. This thesis intends to investigate and review the common denominator within these historical periods in order to understand the contemporary phenomena in architecture. In the study, the argument focuses on the interrelationship between Baroque architecture and the Folding theory of Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz to examine the conceptual relationship of theory of 'Folding' to today's architecture, to speculate how this theory will influence the new paradigm in architecture, and to envision the new development of this idea.
