Control of the Grain Boundary Electrical Features of the Semiconducting Ceramics Synthesized From Surface-Coated Powders

The diffusion coefficients as well as the activation energy of the coating materials near the grain boundary were obtained at particular heat-treatment conditions; it was demonstrated that these values can be used to design specific electrical features of the grain boundary. A systematic variation in the electrical characteristics of the grain boundary with process parameters was observed; it indicates that this synthesis method can be used for fine control over the chemical and electrical properties of the semiconducting ceramics.
