A Study on the Obstacle Detection and Sound Imaging Algorithm of the Guidance Robot for the Visually Impaired

One of the most Inconveniences on outdoor activity of the visually impaired is hard to detect obstacles on the road. In general, many of the visually impaired use white cane for detect obstacles. White cane is cheap and simple. However, it can not detect long distance obstacles and some people dislike that because white cane can detect by touch directly. Therefore, many electrical traveling aided (ETA) and robotic traveling aided (RTA) systems are researched for convenience outdoor activity of the visually impaired. In this paper, we developed more progressed RTA system. It use sound imaging for announce obstacle information that detected by ultrasonic sensor array to the visually impaired.
