Services in future may expect to be based on the concept of an integated services digital network (IDSN). Error are a major source of degradation in that they affect voice services in terms of distortion of voice, and data services in terms of lost or inaccurate information or reached throughput. The "ES (Errored Seconds)" parameter is defined in CCITT recommendation G.821. Bipolar violations are commonly used to estimate bit error ratio and the respective number of errored seconds that are fundamental parameters in characterizing the performance of 1.544 Mbps transmission. Poisson model is studied to represent the process by which ES occur and explain the meaning of average and variance of the Poisson model. We prove the mean ES detection rate by the conventional counting method is approximated with the number of the errored seconds.
