TEMPO/CAN를 사용한 알코올의 Aerobic Oxidation

The combination of 2,2´,6,6´-tetramethylpiperidine N-oxyl (TEMPO) and Ceric Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) affords an efficient catalytic system for the aerobic oxidation of a variety of primary and secondary alcohols, giving the corresponding aldehydes and ketones. Benzylic and allylic alcohols are rapidly oxidized without overoxidation to carboxylic acids. When a diol was used as the starting alcohol the corresponding lactones could be readily obtained.
