Production and Hatching Efficiency of Eggs from Acartia hongi(Copepoda : Calanoida) fed on 5 species of Phytoplankton
초록
Production and hatching efficiency of eggs from Acartia hongi, an endemic and dominant copepod species in the coastal areas of the Yellow Sea, fed on 5 species of phytoplankton were investigated in laboratory, with goal to compare and select the most appropriate phytoplankton species as food in fisheries and crustacean hatcheries in future. A. hongi fed on diatom Thlassiosira weissflogii resulted in the highest production(3 eggs female-1 day-1) and hatching efficiency of eggs(84% in 24h). The lowest egg production was recorded with Tetraselmis suecica(0.6 eggs female-1 day-1) and the lowest hatching efficiency with Skeletonema costatum(53%). The size and motility of phytoplankton seemed the determinant factors affecting the production and hatching efficiency of eggs from A. hongi. Nutritional value seemed, however, have no pronounced effect on them in the adopted experimental conditions.
