Photocatalytic Property of WO3/TiO2 Nanostructures

We have investigated the photocatalytic behavior of WO3-loaded TiO2 systems in several forms, that is, nanoparticles, thin films and mesopore structures. First of all, we prepared the surface-modified TiO2 nanoparticles, whose surface was covered with monolayer of WO3. We also prepared transparent WO3/TiO2 mesoporous thin films by evaporation induced self-assembly (EISA) process. The cubic mesoporous film in 320 nm-thickness demonstrates about 95 % of transparency as well as its ultra-uniform surface. By the addition of WO3, the structure of mesopore of TiO2 is more highly ordered and robust. At the same time, photocatalytic activity in decomposing gas phase 2-propanol was appreciably increased.
