초록
After a big success of Liaozhaizhiyi(聊齋志异), many writers imitated its style and created Chuanqi(傳奇) novels, one of representative works is Yingchuangyicao(螢窗異草). Since Ming Dynasty vernacular novels has made great strides, classical novels also has been produced continuously. Especially Jiandengxinhua(剪燈新話) had an important bearing on literature in early Ming Dynasty. From middle of Ming Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, creations of classical Chinese novel had golden age. This trend had continued to Republican Period, Yingchuangyicao also had been written at the same time. Lu-Xun said, “Yingchuangyicao had not departed from the conventional pattern.”, this criticism has an influence on Yingchuangyicao study, until now we just have a few related researches. Yingchuangyicao as a pastiche of Liaozhaizhiyi has limitations, but has received the love and attention of readers. Shenbao-guan(申報館) had published Yingchuangyicao in 1876, it explains that Yingchuangyicao has an attraction and a popularity as a story. In this respect, we realize that Yingchuangyicao’s narrative and material need to be re-examined. So, we translated Yingchuangyicao into Korean and commented on the text. Yingchuangyicao basically shows us strange and weird stories, to be concrete, love stories between a human and a fox, or a human and a ghost. Most of the novels are about the good triumphing over the evil, and also recommend to suppress greed and sexual immorality. On the other hand, the novels represent a confused era, late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, and criticize society at that time. Yingchuangyicao expressed people who had lived in the frustrated time and their feelings. We chose three short stories from Yingchuangyicao and translated them. We planned to translate whole original text, so this is the first outcome of our project.
