The hip surface replacement concept remains attractive because the femoral head and neck are preserved.The early results are promising, but the longer results are often disappointing because of aseptic loosening and neck fracture. Surface arthroplasty should not be considerred a standard arthroplasty and further long term study is needed to evaluate the risk factors affecting outcome of surface arthroplasty.
