Development of a Business Simulation Program for Nurse Entrepreneurs in Integrated Long-Term Care Services

초록

Purpose: This study aimed to develop the Business Accelerating Solution for Integrated Long-Term Care Services (BASTCareS), an educational simulation program designed to strengthen business decision-making capabilities among nurse entrepreneurs. Methods: As part of a multi-year project guided by the ADDIE model, real-world operational data were collected from two long-term care centers and structured into a database to inform the program's simulation framework. The program incorporated the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) to assess internal capabilities and the Boston Control Group (BCG) Matrix to design sustainable service portfolios. A multidisciplinary team of nursing faculty, doctoral students, and IT developers held seven design meetings between October 2023 and October 2024. Results: BASTCareS was developed as a web-based simulation tool featuring three modules: Home-Visit Nursing, Day-Care Center, and Integrated Care Simulation. Users input and modify operational variables and receive real-time feedback on profitability, staffing, and service balance. The system visualizes performance indicators aligned with BSC perspectives and supports portfolio decisions using BCG Matrix. Conclusion: BASTCareS offers a structured, data-driven educational environment for enhancing entrepreneurial competencies among nurse leaders working in long-term care. It reflects national policy shifts toward integrated community care and provides a scalable training resource for academic and field-based nursing professionals.
