초록
When the purpose of teaching shifts from mastery of structure to communicative competence, learners’ willingness to use English gains importance. The study will examine the current situation of out-of-class English lessons in Korea and identify what is insufficient in the overheated English lessons. The study then explores the willingness of Korean EFL learners to communicate in English and the factors that influence this willingness. This presentation presents a part of an ongoing observation of two Korean kids’ willingness to communicate in English. In particular, the observation will focus on two events: 1) When learners lived in the United States for 7 months in an American home; and 2) When learners have American guests for one month at home in Korea. Implications for parents and teachers involved with EFL will be discussed.
