Design of attitude control system is generally carried out through a top-down approach from mission requirements to design of actuator performance and configuration. It sequentially designs lower level system, and this strategy is considered to be systematic and logical for development of medium and large size satellites consisting of complex interfaces between subsystems. However, for small size satellites it is critical to maximize satellite performance with limited resources, and to achieve the goal it could be more proper to take integrated design rather than conventional sequential design. This research proposes optimal design of satellite attitude and orbit control subsystem installed with reaction wheels. The proposed method achieves an optimal solution of performance and configuration of reaction wheels. It is verified that the obtained solution satisfies the design goal and constraints by applying the actuator command distribution logic and also that it is identical to the solution of previous analytic solution for special cases.
