Determinants of Hospital Bad Dept-Statistical Analysis

Although the of uncompensated care(bad debt plus charity care) and charity care has been actively debated in the public arena, there has been little discussion of the bad debt issue alone. This issue is important, since, according to literature, the behavior of bad debt, charity care and uncompensated care are significantly different from each other. Furthermore, hospitals, like any other industry, have been struggling to reduce their operating expense in order for them to be in a competitive position in the health care market. The recent surge of managed care appears to have accelerated such a need for tight cost control in hospital operations.
