Gait Analysis with 3-axis Wireless Accelerometer Sensor

In clinical setting, gait analysis has been used in observation and rehabilitation of pathological conditions. Although the need for gait analysis is significant, the high cost and cumbersome wired analysis system limits frequency and duration of the use. The body-mount gait sensor with 3-axis wireless accelerometer was developed to digitalize the motion. Participants were assigned to a sequential walking on a horizontal plane at two different occasions for the accuracy of measures. Stride distance, and angle were derived from measurement of acceleration. The results showed efficiency and reliability of the wireless gait sensor in lower limbs. Based on the test results, the ankle-mounted wireless sensor will be calibrated for accuracy and application in clinical diagnosis and rehabilitation.
