Factors Affecting the Short-term Compressive Properties of Bi-planar Geonets

In this study, the relationship between manufacturing parameters, for example, thickness, weight, crystallinity, rib strand strength, strand intersection angle and strand inclination, and the compressive behaviors for the traditional bi-planar geonet were investigated. The data showed that there is no significant manufacturing factors to affect the compressive strength of the bi-planar geonet before the yielding point (= determination as a compressive strength) of compressive strength-strain curves. However, after yielding point, the profile of the both rib strand (upper and lower strand), circular type or square type, mainly affect to the post compressive behavior. It seems that the more circular shape of the strand, the shorter roll-over region exists, and this advantage may increase the transmissivity of the bi-planar geonet.
