Behavioral Characteristics for the Energy Dissipation Capacity of a Double Split Tee Connection without a Shear Tab

초록

A double split tee connection, a type of beam-to-column moment connection, is designed in such a way that the T-stub fastened to the top and bottom support the bending moment and the shear tab supports shear force. Unfortunately, when the double split tee connection is applied to middle- and low-rise steel structures, a shear tab can not be applied because the depth of the beam shortens. Therefore, new double split tee connetion details are required which has a sufficient shear force support without the shear tab. In this study, the double split tee connection without a shear tab, which the authors obtained from performing analytical studies, is intended to exhibit sufficient rotational stiffness in the middle- and low-rise steel structures by way of a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis. The major findings of this studyy will more accurately understand the behavioral chracteristics of double split tee connections and predict the energy dissipation capacity of the connections, thereby proposing the optimal connection analytical model.
