The Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell has been a promising technology for an efficient power generation and has very wide major applications. However, it is necessary to accurately understand the failure behavior of the system and their effects. This study focused on the analysis of the impact when the fuel cell system faces defects in the working components. A Multi-scale simulation of three-dimensional two-phase PEFC model with coolant has been carried out considering the different cases of failure (humidifier, air supply, CL degradation, coolant failure and membrane ageing) in the components of fuel cell considering at normal operating conditions. An extensive multi-dimensional contour of temperature, cell voltage, current density, transport resistance and species concentration in the PEMFC is provided to analyze the detailed impact of the different failure cases.
