Design and Performance Evaluation of Washing Machine Damper Using Shape Memory Alloy

초록

In this work, a 2-stage friction type of shape memory alloy (SMA) damper is proposed and its effectiveness is validated by evaluating vibration control performance of a drum washing machine. The operating principle of proposed damper is explained, and the mathematical model is driven. The SMA damper is then designed based on the model and manufactured. To evaluate control performance, an experimental apparatus is established using DC motor and cam rotor. Vibration control results are investigated at three different operating frequencies. It is shown that the proposed SMA damper can provide high performance of vibration control in both low and high frequencies.
