Design of anti-windup and bumpless transfer controller with application to nonlinear boiler systems

This paper deals with the full range control problem of nonlinear boiler systems subject to actuator constraints. Finally, three operating points are selected to cover the full operational range of the boiler systems and the linear controller corresponding to each operating point is designed using H infinity LSDP. Then switching between these controllers is taken under the operational status of the boiler. Secondly, in order to solve the windup problem in the linear controller, which results from actuator saturation, and to tackle the bump when switching controllers, the high-gain feedback approach for the H infinity LSDP controller suggested by Hyde(Hyde, 1991; Hyde and Glover, 1993) is applied to the non-linear boiler systems. Via simulation studies, it is shown that the modified anti-windup H infinity controller demonstrates the satisfactory performances, especially that the controller shows the bumpless action over the full operating range of the nonlinear boiler systems through controller switching.
