A Quantum Theory of Evanescent Wave Absorption and Emission

We present a quantum theory of the absorption and emission of light by an atom coupled to the evanescent wave. Our theoretical calculation shows that the transition rates depend strongly on the atom position due to the cavity QED effect and also depend on the incidence angle of light.
