Cyclic Behavior of Portal Frame Piers in Earthquake

초록

Many buildings and infrastructures were damaged during the Hyogoken-Nanbu Earthquake on January 17, 1995. Many portal frame such as piers in the urban elevated bridge were also damaged by the seismic loading. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cyclic behavior of portal frame piers in earthquake. In this study, the effects of the width-to-thickness parameter and the vertical load on seismic performance are investigated by elasto-plastic finite element analysis for the portal frame piers. From the numerical results, the portal frame pier has high ductility when the width-to-thickness parameter is lower than 0.4. The bending moment at the base of pier can be reduced when the beam-to-column connections can deform easier than the other parts
