김기욱, 최철현, 김현준, 오범환, 이승걸, 박세근, 이일항, 김태엽, 유용구, 김약연,한기평 We report on an effective means for the optimal design of a mode index waveguide lens which plays a critical role in the realization of a high-density magneto-optical recording head. The lens must have the high optical transmission efficiency and the small spot size, simultaneously in order to obtain high data-storage density, and its two characteristics can be improved by controlling thicknesses of guiding layer and waveguide lens. By using the effective means, we could obtain spot size of 470 nm for the guiding layer with the thickness of about 200 nm.
