Assessment of Numerical Optimization Methods for Aerodynamic Design

초록

To develop the efficient numerical optimization method for design of airfoil, an evaluation of various methods coupled with two-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis is presented. Simplex and Hook-Jeeves methods as direct search methods, and steepest decent, conjugate gradient and DFP methods as indirect search methods, are used to determine the search direction. To determine the moving distance, golden section and cubic interpolation methods are tested. Finite volume method is used to discretize two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. From the results, it is found that conjugate gradient and cubic interpolation method are most efficient for the determination of search direction and the moving distance, respectively.
