A Color Interpolation Technique for 2G-Bayer CFA Pattern

초록

Most of digital still camera employ single CCD as tje light capturing sensor. Single CCD has a color filter structure called CFA(Color Filter Array). Array of color filters is attached on the CCD surface in the form of micro lens. 2G-Bayer pattern has been most common configuration of color filters. In CFA structure, each pixel generates a single color information. Thus, the remaining two color information need to be interpolated to form a complete color image. This process of interpolation is often called as the missing pixel interpolation. Various missing pixel interpolation techniques have been proposed. This paper presents a new method of interpolation proposed to improve the quality of the reconstructed color image and reduce the computational complexity and memory requirements. In the proposed method, missing green pixels are first interpolated based on the fact that local variations of green are similar to those of red and blue colors in the natural scenes. Red and Blue values are then interpolated by the similar formula used for the green interpolation. Experimental results indicate that the proposed technique can reduce the undesirable artifacts and require less computation and memory.
