초록

The purpose of this research is to investigate a new approach, for the first time to our knowledge, for fabrication of integrated array of micro-scale polymer optical waveguides on both sides of a copper plate in a double-sided structure. In comparison with the existing techniques of integrating two dimensional polymer optical waveguides for optical printed circuit board (O-PCB) applications[1-2], we do this in a way that is simpler and compatible with the conventional high-volume manufacturing processes of the electrical printed circuit boards. Furthermore, it is possible to integrate the optical waveguides to an even higher density because the copper plate[3], by being placed in the middle, plays a role to allow waveguide fabrication on both sides of the copper plate.
