Challenges and Tendencies in Blockchain for SCM -Science Mapping Analysis-

Rapid development of blockchain technology in industry around the world plays an important role in addressing the issue of supply chain management(SCM). The purpose of this paper is to review main blockchain applications in SCM, challenges in SCM as a result of blockchain adoption, and what the future of blockchains holds in SCM. The review uses ‘blockchain’ and ‘supply chain management’ as keywords and analyze 631 papers between 2017 and April 2021 in the Web of Science(WOS) database. Using CiteSpace and VOSviewer as science mapping analysis tools, this study investigates the most influential authors, institutions, and countries. Theoretical understanding and hot research subjects on blockchain primarily focused on “smart contracts,” “security,” and “sustainability.” This study has shown that blockchain technology in SCM is still in its infancy, and future research should focus more on management, blockchain technology, and energy sustainability. The results of this study identified hot issues and challenges in the application of blockchain technology in SCM. As a result, this study aided academics and practitioners in understanding the current state and trends of blockchain technology in SCM research.
