초록

Modern cities which experienced an radical growth in area and density are faced with new problems such as global environment, sustainability, sudden changes in technology and moral paradigm. On the contrary, the conventional definition of the role of architecture has limited the range of social role of architecture by which architecture can contribute to the society. The study attempts to explore ways to overcome the limit of conventional deed of architecture, to investigate the potential values of nature inherited in the city, and to examine the strategy to convert topographical "in-between" space which is concealed by cityscape to be regarded as a condition of absence. Accordingly , an argument of the study is focused on how to excavate the values of topographical history that have been concealed or removed to be disregarded in the discourse of urbanism, and how to intervene such topographical history with the existing urban system to embody such ‘inter-penetration’ in the form of architecture. Keywords: Global Environment, Sense of Topography, inter-penetration, in-between space
