초록

In this research the environmental impact of waste tires as ground-reinforcing material was investigated. Analysis for chemical compounds was performed on the leachate from thirteen lysimeters in which scrap tires(5cm×6.5cm) were mixed with weathered soil and initially different environmental solutions of freshwater(acidic, neutral, basic) and seawater circulated for 16 weeks through the mixture. Test result showed that shredded tires has negligible effect on the drinking water quality based on Korean drink water standards by the concentration of cadmium(Cd), lead(Pb), chromium(Cr), copper(Cu), zinc(Zn), and aluminum(Al) and selenium(Se) exceeded Korean water standards in case of using seawater as an inflow water. However, the levels of concentrations of manganese(Mn) and iron(Fe) were exceeded Korean water standards for all environmental conditions. Concentration level of iron(Fe) steadily increased for 12 weeks and decreased slightly thereafter at the 16th weeks. The decrease in soluble iron concentration levels is associated with the formation of rust and absorption of tire. Because of the tire property neutralizing the leaching medium, detected concentration levels of metal make no difference for the different environmental solutions of acidic, neutral and basic.
