The Structure and Photoluminescence Properties of TiO2-Coated SnO2 Nanorods

A radial nanorod structure consisting of an SnO2 nanorod core and a surrounding TiO2 nanoshell was successfully built. The SnO2 nanorod core was first synthesized by thermal evaporation of Sn powders and the TiO2 outlayer was coated by spyttering. Asmples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. It was found that both the SnO2 core and the TiO2 shell had crystalline structures. The relative PL intensity in the visible region was significantly increased by thermal annealing.
