Development of Nursing Infobuttons on Medication to Prevent Medication Administration Errors
초록
The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the nursing Infobuttons on medication for preventing medication administration errors by nurses. The first step was to develop content of the nursing Infobuttons on medication based on the previous works and a commercial drug knowledge base (KIMS®) at a tertiary hospital in Incheon. The content was targeted40 red-flag drugs and developed by the author. The next step was to develop Web-based medication Infobuttons and to establish links with the medication order retrieval screens used by nurses of the hospital. The Infobutton service was provided for 40 days from October to December, 2009. Thirty nine nurses from internal medicine were participated voluntarily. User satisfaction was measured with the Questionnaire for User Interaction Satisfaction, v.5.0 and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and use of Technology questionnaire. As for the hit frequency, the server log file was analyzed. The user-system interaction and the user acceptance showed moderate-high scores ranging from 6.87 to 6.95 out of 9.0 and 3.21 to 3.91 out of 5.0 respectively. The hit frequency revealed the moderate level ranging from 50 to 90 per five days. These results imply that the medication Infobuttons approach has great potential to contribute to preventing medication errors by nurses.
