The direct reaction of carbon dioxide(CO2) with methane(CH4) to obtain synthesis gas has been studied on nickel(Ni), palladium(Pd) and platinum(Pt) supported catalysts. Ni supported on NaY-type zeolite showed a high catalytic activity and the conversion of CO2 over this catalyst reached up to 84%. The activity strongly depended on the amount of nickel over NaY, and the activity of catalyst was influenced by the kind of cations in Y-zeolite. The higher CO2 conversion was obtained over Ni supported on non-acidic zeolites. The thermodynamic equilibrium calculations of the direct decomposition of CO2 and the reaction of CO2 with CH4 etc. were performed in the temperature range of 500 - 6000K at atmospheric pressure. The direct decomposition of CO2, the reaction of CO2 with CH4 were studied using thermal plasma as a heating process and a water-cooled tube as a quenching process. The conversion of CO2 with CH4 was much higher the conversion of direct decomposition of CO2.
