초록

This study examined the mediating effect of resilience on the relationship between student-athletes’ perceived caring and burnout. Participants were 243 middle and high school athletes from the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions who provided informed consent and were selected via convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Caring Climate Scale, the Resilience Scale, and the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire. Descriptive analysis, correlation, and structural equation modeling analysis were undertaken by using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 21.0. The main findings were as follows. First, perceived caring exerted a significant positive effect on resilience. Second, perceived caring had a significant negative effect on burnout. Third, resilience showed a significant negative effect on burnout. Fourth, resilience was found to mediate the relationship between perceived caring and burnout. These results suggest that a coach’s caring extends beyond mere encouragement and serves to strengthen athletes’ resilience an intrapersonal resource that enables them to recognize and accept stressors and respond adaptively thereby preventing burnout. In particular, resilience appears to be a key factor in facilitating rapid recovery from the physical and emotional fatigue associated with repetitive training and competitive pressure, while maintaining self-efficacy. Accordingly, future research should move beyond theoretical validation to explore practical strategies for promoting the psychological well-being of student-athletes.
