Comparison of Field-Controlled Characteristics Between ER and MR Clutches

This paper presents inherent characteristics of ER and MR clutch, respectively. After analyzing transmitted torque level, two clutches are manufactured by constraing the field gap. The experimental appratus is then constructed to measure the field-dependent torque and response characteristics. The transmitted torque is evaluated with respect to angular velocity and step response is also identified. In addition, torque control response is provided in order to make reasonable comparison between two clutches.
