Experimental Study of Elastic Deflection to Improve Touch-Probe Repeatability

초록

A probe is a 3D measuring device widely used for Computer Numerical Control(CNC) machining, and its precisiondetermines the workpiece quality. With the current demand for hightech products, research on high-precisionprobes determines the quality of high-precision processed products. Tactile touch probes are typically used forthis purpose. The touch probe has the advantage of small size and low cost owing to its simple structure. Inaddition, because of its advantages, such as accuracy, precision, and flexibility, it is widely used in variousindustrial fields. However, the contact-type touch probe has structural limitations owing to errors such as radiuserror, center alignment error, and repeatability of the probe caused by the probe-needle bending effect duringmeasurement. Because the touch-probe repeatability error is an essential factor affecting the workpiece qualityand reliability, various studies and developments are needed to improve the precision of the cutting tool originselection touch probe to produce more precise and high-quality products. In this study, the effect of the needlein the touch probe on elastic deflection was analyzed. The effects of the spring load design, needle length, andfatigue limit on the touch probe were investigated. These results are useful for improving the quality andreliability of machined products.
