Research for New GNSS Signals Design: Focusing on the S-band

This paper investigates on the S-band and adjacent band environments for designing a new satellite navigation signal and presents possible signal candidates via the performance analysis using an analytical simulator. In S-band, in addition to the Radio-determination Satellite Service (RDSS) to which the satellite navigation system belongs, several primary services are already allocated, and adjacent bands are used by various communication systems. In this paper, we study on the possibility of the use of the S-band for next generation RDSS in terms of received signal power, inter-system interference, and spectral efficiency, and analyze Spectral Separation Coefficient (SSC) and spectral efficiencies for candidate signals.
