Design of a USRP-based Parameterized GNSS/KPS Signal Processing Architecture

A Software Defined Radio (SDR) approach for developing a receiver for Korea Positioning System (KPS), which is a new satellite-based navigation system of Korea, is essential to handle various unknown signals because it is still under the designing phase. Using the SDR approach, it is possible to study and develop signal processing algorithms of new signals, thereby clarifying the performance of new signals. The use of Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) makes it easy to build-up and re-use Radio Frequency (RF) front-end. Using Parallel Computing Toolbox (PCT) of Matlab, parallel processing algorithms for real-time processing can be easily implemented. This paper presents a fundamental architecture of real-time universal Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and KPS signal receiver by using USRP and PCT that can be easily re-configured for existing GNSS and/or new KPS signals in response to the user input parameter setting at the beginning of receiver operation in real time.
